What a 2x2 ID picture should look like

Schools, employers and agencies that ask for a 2x2 or 1x1 picture usually expect the same basics as a passport photo:

  • Plain white background, even light, no shadows
  • Face straight to the camera, both eyes open, neutral expression
  • Head and top of the shoulders in frame, with a little space above the head
  • A recent photo, with no filters

Some offices add their own requirements, such as a name tag, collared clothing or a specific background colour. Follow those if they are listed.

How many pixels is a 2x2 picture?+

600 × 600 pixels at 300 dpi, the standard print resolution. The US visa and Diversity Visa digital photos also use 600 × 600 pixels.

How many 2x2 pictures fit on a 4R (4×6 inch) print?+

Six: two across and three down. A 4×6 print holds up to 24 1x1 pictures (four across, six down) if you leave no gaps.

Is a 2x2 picture the same as a passport size photo?+

Not always. 2x2 inches is the US passport size. Many countries use 35 × 45 mm for passports, so check which size your application asks for.
